Hampshire: new village house

Hampshire: new village house.

An apparently single-storey house which had to be modest in its village setting. The design illustrates how the relationship between a local vernacular, arts and crafts architecture and classicism can be combined. Terracotta decorated brickwork and a clay tile roof with high specially manufactured finials, contrast with a garden colonnade, a Venetian window and, on the entrance side, a grand doorcase is framed with two monumental chimneys.
